Guidelines for SAFE use of essential oils: Essential oils are strong, concentrated and powerful products. Please use common sense and follow the precautions listed below for the SAFE and appropriate use of essential oils. Please note that all of the products offered by Tomorrow River Essentials are already diluted in carrier base oils. We do not offer straight essential oil in stock bottles. **When using aromatherapy and essential oils, please follow all the directions and precautions given with the product. More is not necessarily better or more effective. Do not over-apply an essential oil product or you may experience a rash or reaction on your skin. **It is helpful to keep a bottle of carrier oil (grapeseed, jojoba, apricot kernel, etc. ) or pure vegetable oil (olive oil) available when using essential oils topically. If an essential oil causes discomfort or skin irritation, a carrier/vegetable oil will dilute the essential oil and ease the discomfort faster than washing it off with soap and water. **Do not ingest or take essential oils internally. Tomorrow River Essentials products are for external use ONLY. **Keep essential oils in a secure location, tightly closed and out of the reach of children and pets. Ideally, essential oils should be stored in dark bottles in a cool location away from direct sunlight. **Do not use essential oils on infants or very young children. Do not use essential oils rich in menthol (such as peppermint) on the throat or neck area of children under 30 months of age. **There are conflicting ideas about the use of essential oils with and on pets. Many believe that some essential oils are poisonous to dogs and cats or that strong and harmful reactions and irritations are possible. **Keep essential oils away from the eyes and ears. Essential oils should not be utilized in the ears or eyes. Do not rub your eyes or handle contact lenses after using essential oils. Some oils may cause an irritation and burning sensation. If an essential oil or essential oil blend gets into your eye, flush the eye immediately with clean water or cold milk. Seek medical attention if the stinging and/or irritation continues. **It is recommended that pregnant women consult their health care professional before utilizing essential oils. The following essential oils should be avoided during pregnancy: Basil, Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Fennel, Idaho Tansy, Jasmine, Juniper, Lavender, Marjoram, Myrrh, Rose, Rosemary, Sage and Thyme. Please note that this list may not be a complete listing of all the oils to avoid during pregnancy. **It is recommended that individuals with epilepsy or high blood pressure consult their health care professional before utilizing essential oils. The following essential oils should be avoided by those individuals with epilepsy, as they may trigger seizure activity: Cajaput, Champhor, Eucalyptus, Hyssop, Fennel, Idaho Tansy, Peppermint and Rosemary. Please note that this list may not be a complete listing of all the oils to avoid if you have epilepsy. **Some oils may cause a rash or produce a darker pigmentation on the skin if applied to skin that is exposed to direct sunlight or UV rays within 3 to 4 days of use. This is true for citrus oils, such as lemon, bergamot, orange, lime, grapefruit and tangerine. These oils are considered photo-sensitizing oils. **Do not use essential oils undiluted. When trying an essential oil for the first time, always perform a small patch test on the inside of your wrist (after the essential oil has been diluted with carrier oil) to ensure that you do not have a reaction to the oil. Every individual is unique and the way you react to a particular product may be significantly different from other people. If you experience any soreness, redness, discomfort or irritation do not use the essential oil, the blend or the product. Please note that all of Tomorrow River Essentials products are already diluted in a carrier oil base. **If you have allergies to a particular food, do not use the essential oils or carrier oils that are made from that particular food item, as you may experience an allergic reaction. For example, individuals with nut allergies may experience a reaction to the carrier oil - almond oil. Tomorrow River Essentials does not use almond oil in any of its carrier bases due to this potential reaction. **Do not add undiluted essential oils directly to bathwater. Use a bath gel base as a dispersing agent. Otherwise, the oils sit on the surface of the bath water and can become too concentrated on the surface of the skin, causing a reaction. **It is highly recommended that you use a variety of essential oils, rotating those which you use often in order to avoid any chance of reaction, sensitization or irritation. When using a blend for more than three days, it is suggested that you take a break from those oils, using an alternative blend for that time period. After that, you may return to the original oils again.
